What Makes Them Great

The Evil Queen established the Disney villain archetype in the studio's very first film. The mirror, the poisoned apple, and the transformation from beautiful queen to cackling hag are foundational elements of animated villainy.

The Villain

The Evil Queen is Disney's first villain and still one of its most terrifying — a vain monarch who orders the murder of a teenager and then poisons her with an apple when the huntsman fails. Lucille La Verne voiced both the regal queen and the cackling old hag disguise, and the transformation sequence between the two remains the most horrifying scene in Disney's first feature film.
