Iconic Quote
“Do not, my friends, become addicted to water.”
— Immortan Joe, Mad Max: Fury Road
What Makes Them Great
Immortan Joe is the definitive post-apocalyptic tyrant — a villain whose visual design tells his entire story. Miller created a patriarchal warlord so grotesque and so mythic that he elevated Fury Road from action film to modern mythology.
The Villain
Hugh Keays-Byrne's Immortan Joe is the most visually arresting villain of the 2010s — a warlord of the wasteland who controls water, breeds enslaved women, and rules through a death cult that promises his War Boys a place in Valhalla. The breathing apparatus, the translucent armor, the white body paint: George Miller designed Joe as a living monument to toxic patriarchal power, and Keays-Byrne's physicality made every frame feel mythic.
