Russell Westbrook

Russell Westbrook's 2016-17 season is the most ferocious individual campaign in modern NBA history. After Kevin Durant left for Golden State, Westbrook responded by averaging a triple-double for the entire season — 31.6 points, 10.7 rebounds, and 10.4 assists — becoming the first player since Oscar Robertson in 1962 to accomplish the feat. He then did it three more times, because Russell Westbrook does not do anything halfway.

Westbrook is the most explosive athlete to ever play point guard. His first step is violent. His dunks in traffic are reckless. His competitive intensity borders on the pathological. He plays every game — regular season, preseason, doesn't matter — as if his life depends on the outcome. This relentlessness is both his greatest strength and his fatal flaw. The same aggression that produces 40-point triple-doubles also produces games with 30 shots on 35% shooting.

Westbrook holds the all-time record for triple-doubles with 199, obliterating Robertson's previous record of 181. His athletic prime was a marvel — there has never been a point guard who attacked the rim with such fury. The lack of a championship and his declining efficiency later in his career prevent him from ranking higher, but Westbrook's peak was a force of nature.
